In 1953 Sturt Pottery was established as a production and teaching centre by Ivan McMeekin. The pottery became a unique and significant place in Australian post- Second World War ceramics, partly due to the presence of high profile potters such as Les Blakebrough, John Edye, Ian McKay (during 1982-1986) and Campbell Hegan.
