| Description/Remarks |
Bark divided into two panels: upper contains two fish with cross-hatched bodies on plain red and yellow ochre ground; lower panel contains four file snakes and one wavy snake with plain red and yellow ochre bodies on a white spotted and cross-hatch (rarrk) patterned ground.
Verso of bark bears three labels:
1. type-written label (illegible - badly insect damaged).
2. printed label also insect damaged but the following is legible: This is an original aboriginal bark painting and has be[en] collected by Dorothy Bennett of the Australian [Ab]original [ ? ]. The bark has been specially treated before painting [with] Satobrite (a solution of Technical Sodium Pentachlorp[ ? ] and after painting, with a solution of Toluol and Bedac[ryl] DOROTHY BENNETT BOX 1057, post [office] DARWIN, N.T.
3. hand-written label: DJUKULUL (NE Arnhemland) "Two ceremonial dances-snake and fish totem" Ex. Dorothy Bennett Collection which toured S.E.Asia in the Mid-60's. 83 x 34 cm. |
