| Description/Remarks | This painting is the most popular of the official portraits in the University Council Chamber. In a letter to the University dated July 25, 1977, the artist agreed to "attempt to paint Mr Justice Samuels" and went on to describe his method: ".....Mr Justice Samuels and I would get together and attempt to create a painting not just a portrait. The way I do this is to get to know the man, make some assessment, and then put that statement down.....people don't pose in a conventional way for me." |
